Democracy & Education for Peace & Human Rights

A pile of human rights labels in various colors

Overview

In line with the College of Liberal Arts’ core value of solidarity, we aim to integrate further and promote democracy, human rights, and peace in our teaching, research, and extension goals. We need to address challenges to democratization, peace, and human rights issues and promote a dialogue that advances mutual understanding.

Responding to the need for a more interdisciplinary vision and approach towards education that is inclusive of human rights along with the initiative of CLA students to include a human rights elective after the 2022 national elections, the college response is to create a thematic cluster that will:

  1. Engage in new course development for human rights
  2. Promote research on democratization, human rights, and peace studies.
  3. Create a pilot program anchored on ethical leadership for DLSU students interested in running as youth councilors.

The CLA community, educators, and students are committed to developing skills such as listening to others, appreciating cooperation, better communication, effective problem-solving, and constructive analysis of our complex contemporary political and social problems. Our goal is to equip community members to understand better the importance of human rights in improving the quality of life for all. Our goal is to encourage participation, especially one that takes action to protect human rights.
